Verizon failed to promptly repair out-of-service land lines. But it saved them the $17.5M. And you already paid your bill. So why should they fix your phone line?
This left an estimated 169,831 Virginians without service for days. Well now they are paying for it, which they should.
After a 2 day hearing in Richmond VA, the
Virginia State Corporation Commission (VA SCC) fined Verizon Virginia and Verizon South $17.5M (their savings) for their failure to promptly respond to these service issues enforced by the state.
In the meeting the Verizon Executives "admitted" Verizon has failed to comply with response time standards. But also emphasized repeatedly that the standards are unreasonable.
My advice to the them: QUIT whining and fix your business. They are so busy trying to create new money from their whole Verizon Fios rollout, they neglect their existing customers.
Think this is the first time Verizon has been found guilty for screwing over and neglecting their customers? Wrong!
The VA SCC previously cracked down on Verizon after its phone books contained significant errors for 3 years straight. This year Verizon had agreed to set aside $2 million to compensate customers affected by directory errors from 2004, 2005 and 2006. An additional $4 million was set aside to cover possible penalties if the phone book errors continue.
Again Verizon needs to fix its business. How can they keep offering additional services when they can't succesfully operate the ones they have?
I wonder how many other states had similiar issues?
