Quickbooks made me Not Get Paid!

I read the earlier article about Quickbooks and just had to share my experience. It was the worst thing ever for me. And caused me not to get paid.

I work as a bookeeper for several clients. One day, about a year ago, I arrived at one of my clients business.

I went inside and sat at the computer I always use. Nothing outside the normal. When I went to open quick books, I got an error message saying:

"User Access Rights Problem. Your user account for windows was created with restricted access to system resources. This will prevent Quickbooks form operating properly. Please contact your system administrator and ask him or her to grant you standard user rights."

I remember I copied this down so I could show their computer tech. He said nothing has changed on that computer, except for an update for quickbooks applied the week prior.

Now I couldn't do my job! If I can't do my job, I can't get paid!

Well the tech and I searched online and found others that ran into the same problems. No one really had a solution. But on the quickbooks forums we found some things to try submitted by the quickbooks support staff.

Well after trying each thing, none worked. I don't remember everything we tried since it was about 12 different things. Some included removing quickbooks from the computer and reinstalling.

I do remember the last one though, because it left my computer inoperable. I remember something to do with the windows registry? Anyway the tech made the changes, and restarted the computer as advised by the quickbooks support staff. And guess what! The computer would not start. Boy was I in a bad mood that day.

The tech then had to rebuild the computer installing everything again. He said it would take about 4 hours. Needless to say, I didn't get paid that day. What a waste.

Since I couldn't work, I left for the day. I had to find some time to come back in that week to finally pay all their pending bills and record their expenses. Some were even late because of it.

I don't understand why quickbooks would require an update that caused so much trouble. And why would their support be so stupid and tell you to do things that harm your computer? To me that says they don't know what they are doing.

With this kind of product and the other horror stories I have read, it will not be long before somebody comes along and easily snatches up all of us disappointed customers. Good riddens!
